My Top 5 Things to Do in New Orleans

March 17, 2020

In February, I took a weekend getaway to NOLA to run the rock & roll half marathon, which has been on my list for a while now. Now that I’ve returned and my film scans are back, I compiled a list of the top 5 favorite things to do in New Orleans.

1. The French Quarters & Bourbon Street | New Orleans

It goes without being said, but a trip to the iconic French Quarters is a must when you travel to New Orleans. Between the lively crowds and the jam-packed bars on Bourbon Street, you can follow the sound of music to determine which destination is your first stop.

Make sure to also grab a beignet at the world’s most famous coffee shop, Cafe du Monde, before you walk through Jackson Square to watch the street performers.

2. Bacchanal Wine | New Orleans

The number one recommendation that came from numerous friends was to visit Bacchanal Wine Bar. This was definitely at the top of my list of my favorite 5 things to do in New Orleans. This wine & cheese store has an outdoor space in the back with live music. It was the perfect place to hang out with a bottle of bubbles and our handpicked cheese plate, as I celebrated finishing the New Orleans Rock & Roll Half Marathon.

3. The Garden District | New Orleans

On our last day in New Orleans, we explored the Garden District. This charming neighborhood was full of diverse homes with lavish gardens. Before we headed off on a scavenger hunt to find the five must see houses, we made a much needed caffeine break at the French Truck. The warm temperatures and lush greens had me longing for spring in New England.

4. 1000 Figs | New Orleans

Before every trip, I always scour the internet for the best restaurants in town. After a few days of southern comfort, we were looking to switch up the food scene. We made a trip to 1000 Figs, a mediterranean spot in Bayou St. John. We ordered the falafel feast for two and it was hands down the best mediterranean fare we have ever had.

5. Hot Sauce Tasting | New Orleans

Traveling with a hot sauce aficionado meant we needed to stop by Pepper Palace to find a new favorite sauce. With so many to choose from, we may have had a chili overdose but we did find the perfect one.
