Better late than never, but never late is better. Yet here I am squeezing in a recap of 2016 hours before January officially comes to a close! Reflecting on the past year is one of my favorite things to do. Maybe it’s because I like looking through old photos but it’s also the one time of the year where I’ll pat myself on the back for everything I have done rather than wishing I was doing more.
In the first month of 2016 I produced more wedding invitation suites than I did in all of 2015! I took a few winter weekend getaways and traveled to Burlington, VT and Miami, Fl. After agreeing to photograph my first wedding ever(!), I signed up for an intro to DSLR class to stop me from throwing my camera out the window from frustration. My sister Courtney got married and I finally got the brother I always wanted. In May, I drove back to Vermont for a workshop where I met the lovely Ashley Largesse and fell head over heels with everything wedding related. Peonies, diamonds and colored linen ribbon, need I say more? The baby of the family graduated college and went off to law school. I survived my first solo wedding in July and loved every minute of it. After a 2 week long marathon of photo editing, I dove in head first by assisting 3 weddings and second shooting for 7 other local wedding photographers. I captured 2 proposals which gave me so many happy tears, I snuck off to London for a quick 48 hours to visit a long lost friend and I discovered that my co-workers have the cutest babies (and dogs) ever! Starting a stationery subscription taught me that the internet is more powerful than you think, I booked my first 2017 wedding and truly embraced the meaning of “community over competition’ by promoting 11 small business owners throughout December. While most days it was the endless amounts of coffee that kept me going, it was also the passion and perseverance to pursue what truly set my soul on fire.
While I don’t know what 2017 will bring, I do know that the best is yet to come.
